Langtang Valley:


Day by Day Route Descriptions


1. By local bus from Kathmandu via Trisuli Bazaar to Dhunche.
Stay in lodges or camp on terraces beyond village.

2. From Dhunche walk along road above the Trisuli River and continue
beyond Bharku to signpost for Syabru.
Climb steeply above road into chir pine forest.
Contour round and continue to Tamang village of Syabru straddling the crest
of a ridge.
Views into Trisuli River Valley and to Ganesh Himal.

3. Descend through terraces and contour round side-valley.
Continue more steeply down through jungle and across landslips into the gorge
of the Langtang Khola.
Continue along riverside and cross bridge to northern bank.
Proceed uphill to cluster of lodges at Lama Hotel.

4. Continue uphill along riverside through old forest.
Emerge into open moorland of broad upper valley.
Police/ National Park checkpoint at Ghora Tabela.
Proceed on a more gradual gradient to the main village of Langtang.
Views to Ganchempo at valley head and above to Langtang Lirung.
Continue over boulder-strewn moorland to Kyanjin.
Views of Langtang Lirung directly above, across valley to Naya Kanga and
Pangen Dopku, up valley to Ganchempo.

5. Proceed up valley over level ground.
Branch off main track on faint trail up steep hillside on northern flank of valley.
Above stone huts make a long rising traverse along hillside.
Finally ascend side-valley to stone huts at the yak pastures of Yala.
Views of nearby Ganchempo and across valley to Ganja La and Naya Kanga.

6. Climb Yala Peak:

Head northwards from Yala across broad, undulating tundra with rocky outcrops.
Cross boulder field and climb steep, broken slope.
Climb short ice-wall onto neve.
Ascend broad snow-field to summit arete.
Traverse knife-edge arete to rocky summit.
Spectacular viewpoint:- Langtang Lirung, Kimshun, Shalbachum;
Ganchempo and Langshisa Ri, upper Langtang Valley;
Pangen Dopku, Ganja La and Naya Kanga.

7. Return from Yala to Kyanjin

8. Rest day/ climb hilltops above Kyanjin

9. Kyanjin - Ganja La Base Camp

10. Ascend to Ganja La and return to BC.

11. Return from BC to Kyanjin

12. Return from Kyanjin to Lama Hotel


A: Direct return to Kathmandu:

13. Return from Lama Hotel to Syabru Besi

14. By bus from Syabru Besi to Kathmandu


B: Return via Gosaikund:

13. Lama Hotel - Syabru

14. Syabru - Sing Gompa

15. Sing Gompa - Gosaikund

16. Gosaikund - Lauribina Pass - Tharepati

17. Tharepati - Khutumsang - Gul Bhanjyang - Pati Bhanjyang

18. Pati Bhanjyang - Mulkharka - Sundarijal - Kathmandu
