The viaduct was opened in 1848

by the Scottish Midland Junction Railway.

A five-span bridge with parallel steel trusses

on the masonry piers of a wooden viaduct,

rebuilt c.1890.

The viaduct carried the Perth - Coupar Angus - Kinnaber Junction ( 'Strathmore' )

main line of the former Caledonian Rly over the River Tay.

The line is disused but the viaduct remains standing.

The river here forms the boundary

between the parishes of Cargill and Kinclaven
