A Photo Gallery of an ascent of Monte Rosa ( 4633 metres )from Zermatt via the Gornergrat Glacier Monte Rosa is a large complex massif - its summits - Dufourspitze (4633m), Nordend (4609m), Zumsteinspitze (4563), and Signalkuppe (4556m) - are 4 of the 5 highest peaks in the Alps - Mont Blanc (4807m) being the highest. On the Swiss, northern side, of Monte Rosa glaciers flow towards the Zermatt valley. In contrast on the Italian, southern side, there are steep, rugged precipices.
