Glen
Coe lies in the Lochaber
area of the Western Highlands of Scotland.
It is considered one of the
most spectacular and beautiful places in Scotland and is a designated
National Scenic Area. The name Glen Coe is popularly, but erroneously,
believed to mean the "Glen
of Weeping" - possibly due to the
precipitous rocky ridges towering above the narrow valley. However it
is an apt name in view of the infamous Massacre of Glencoe. Glencoeis famous for
the
quality and variety of its hill walking and rock climbing - most of the
routes are easily accessible from the main road. Many walkers arrive in
Glen Coe on The
West Highland Wayon route to Fort
William. The
White Corries ski centre on Meall a
Burraidh
is on the east side at the beginning of Glen Coe.
